Event Description

The Regional Maternal Newborn Orientation Program© (RMNOP) was created to promote the consistent delivery of safe, quality perinatal care.  It may be used as a guide to assist preceptors and clinical educators as they mentor learners during the orientation process. It may also be used as a resource for experienced nurses who wish to refresh their perinatal knowledge. The program is based on the Canadian Association of Perinatal and Women’s Health Nurses (CAPWHN) Perinatal Nursing Standards in Canada and the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) competencies for perinatal nurses. Completion of the program will also assist learners to academically prepare for the Perinatal Nursing Certification Exam.

Core perinatal nursing competencies facilitate learners to develop the theoretical knowledge required to support nursing care for perinatal patients.

RMNOP Module 1: Antepartum includes 15 self-directed learning chapters which are based on current best-practice guidelines and standards.

RMNOP Module 2: Intrapartum includes 5 self-directed learning chapters which are based on current best-practice guidelines and standards.

RMNOP Module 3: Postpartum Care and Module 4: Newborn Care each include 4 self-directed learning chapters which are based on current best-practice guidelines and standards.
